Notes for Users of KIDS COUNT Data

Census Data:  American Community Survey (ACS) data are expected to replace the U.S. Census long-form within the decade. ACS data are based on a sample of households and are available for some counties with populations of 65,000 or more. ACS data are being released each year in waves according to county size, with larger populated counties being released first.  Data are not consistently available across larger-sized counties due to sampling issues. ACS will release data for smaller population counties in 2009 or later. Georgia KIDS COUNT has posted 2004 and 2005 ACS larger county data for these indicators: teens who are high school dropouts, teens ages 16-19 who are not in school and not working, and single parents.  ACS data are posted to the Web site upon availability.

Counties with Multiple School Systems:   School success indicators posted for a county include data for the county school system only.  If the county also has a city school system or a charter school, please search under "School District" to view the school system-level data on students attending those school systems.

Small Numbers: When fewer than five events occur in a county in a year, only the number of events will be posted. Rates are neither calculated nor posted. For example, if WeCare County had less than five teen births in 2005, only the number of teen births, and not a rate, would be posted.
