Repeat Teen Births, Ages 15-19
Measure
Percent of mothers ages 15-19 who gave birth and already have given birth to a child that is still living.
Why is this indicator important?
Teens who have a repeat birth before age 20 are less likely to complete high school and more likely to live in poverty, compared to teens who have had only one child during adolescence.
Preventing repeat teen pregnancy is a complex challenge that includes not only family planning, but education and job training opportunities for parenting teens and programs that teach teens to parent their children well.
